A small change can produce great results

Hi Friends,

I Think this is a small change that can turn very practical the PDF report design : replace the “Interface” view (IMAGEN1.JPG) with a free form window with all the cells as small textboxes.

Then the programmer can drag and move these “cells” and positioning on any X-Y position, then the X-Y position are take from this graphical interface and putting in the actual “textual” interface.

this change is simple and very useful if you add the background image too, and the scriptcase user only positioning the “cells” objects visually. (IMAGEN2.JPG)

Re: A small change can produce great results

I know I am replying to an old post here but would like to know how to do this. It appears to be one attachment is missing in this post.

I am not sure what is meant by below;

“replace the ‘Interface’ view (IMAGEN1.JPG) with a free form window with all the cells as small textboxes.”

Can anyone give me some instructions on how to do that?
Thank you.
Appreciate your help.

Re: A small change can produce great results

Hi Gayan,

What I suggested in the forum is that the team ScriptCase make that change, not that I have made that change.

In actual designing an interface ScriptCase putting numbers XY positions

My request was "why not better presented graphically the report elements over the background picture, and the user can move, copy, paste, delete, etc… And when leaving the graphical interface simply detect the XY position of each element and is ScriptCase which contruct the XY model numbers as at present.

Re: A small change can produce great results

wysiwyg report design such as on crystal report,… i think its realize on sc7 :)…but when?..

Re: A small change can produce great results

Hi Aquiles,
Your suggestion is really good and it will help a lot when creating PDF reports. At the moment it is very time consuming when aligning field values against the label.

In another post someone suggested using iReport and create a XML for the reports. I like that idea too but I had problems connecting to remote MySQL database. So I couldn’t try that.

Masbro - yes if we can get wysiwyg type report design in the next release of sc that will be good. but as you said, when???

Anyone got any tips on placing field values more effectively other than guess work. Currently I am using ‘Show Ruler’ feature on the report and try different values in ‘Interface Layout’ until i get things right. Is that what you do too?
Cheers,
Gayan

I have to do exactly that, but here is the harder part.
If I have a field that contains numbers you cant right justify the results.
having multiple lines with up to 4 digit quantities looks terrible and unprofessional.

I tried using the field length and justification on the interface bit it doesnt change a thing.
