Application for children training on line with slides, videos, music and attachements

Dear all,

before to start a new application I would have some hints in order to take the right path from the beginning.

The application is about an E-Learning course about driving school topics for children that attends elementary schools.

The have to use a user/password to access to the application and then they have the possibiliy to see several courses.
Once choosen one of then the course he/she starts showing static pages (like ppt slides), animated slides (some part of video could be animated) with sound and music or mute, videos and other stuff you can imagine.
The process of slides and stuff has the possibility to go forward or back using next/previous buttons and all the slides could have links on images shown on the screen.

The other requirement is that the application must be maintained by teacher/istructor using an easy interface where to store images, videos, musics and other materials.

More or less this is a 10.000 mt requirements. This is a specific nice application that do such kind of activities natively but the cost for license is not feasable becouse school budget is quite very low.

Using Scriptcase I have some doubts about the possibility to have a nice user interface and also about the edventually Responsive features that are still not present in SC.

Any suggestion or hints are wellcome

Using Scriptcase I have some doubts about the possibility to have a nice user interface and also about the edventually Responsive features that are still not present in SC.

If you mean by this that you cannot implement this all out of standard functionality of scriptcase then you are right. Scriptcase is a tool which can help you shorten development time, but it isn’t the holy grail. The good news is that you can use other means to achieve things. We for instance are integrating Scriptcase functionality within our cms (E107). In E107 it’s possible to integrate our movies etc. (You can use other CMS’s too of course, but we have adapted E107). We are busy creating an e-learning system using scriptcase as one of the tools. My advise would be to investigate the functionality that you need and find the tools to help you with that. Then you have to fit all the puzzle pieces but that’s part of the job. Using a cms will paint your site just the way you like it, and by integrating scriptcase you don’t have to dive into creating plugins for that specific cms. That’s a win-win situation for us. My 2 cents…

Hi Gio,
I have just the thing for you. It is a LMS (Learning Management System) called Moodle. It is free and very very powerful. https://moodle.org/

I have used this myself many times. It is PHP based, so it can be modified, but it has many plugins and things that other educators have developed. It has a great forum and various training things about itself on the https://moodle.org/ website, so you can get a real feel for how this works.

I used it for my own online training efforts, implementing classes with all sorts of cool interactions - you can add photos, movies, polls, games, tests, grades, etc. You can even have paid stuff, using paypal, etc.

Again, it is open source. The people who work on this are VERY educator friendly. It is not just for us programmers. I know for a fact some major universities that have dumped the expensive Blackboard program and use Moodle instead. Plus it can be scaled down to work for a very small organization.

You can get a cheap hosting service for like <$10/mnt and install Moodle as a PHP application. Very easy. You can also pay some specilized Moodle hosting services, or pay a consultant to set it up. Their website is the place to start.

They care about online learning more than technology, but they have developed the best LMS out there for the use of the world.
Good luck!
Peace,
Jamie

I suggest that you use moodle (https://moodle.org/) see the demo: http://demo.moodle.net/
