Bug in creating a New Application of type 'Tabs'

I wanted to bring up a minor bug that I have encountered while creating a Tabs Form. The bug itself does not appear until you wish to ‘Edit’ a tab that has been created. Here is the situation:

You want to rename an application so you highlight it and select ‘Rename’ at the right.
Once you’ve renamed the application and any associated links to it you are returned back to the Project screen.

Now when you go into the tabs application and try to run it you’l get an error…
“Nonexistent Link Application {name of app in link)”.

I have also tried to Generate the code and got an error…
“Problems in code generation, please view the log”.

Luck-ally there is a simple work-a-round for now that I have found…

  1. Go to the ‘Application Settings’ properties page in the Tabs form you are in.
  2. Add a new Link to the newly re-named Form.
  3. Be sure to select one of the ‘Parameter Values’ radio buttons. If you don’t you will get an error indication that you need to select one.
  4. Save the link.
  5. Highlight the link causing the issue and ‘Remove’ it because it is the old Form name. Editing it won’t work either because that will come up with an error as well.
  6. Everything should be OK now.

Don’t try to remove the bad link first. That won’t work. I tried it. After I thought it was deleted and added the new Form that bad link appeared again in the list.

Word of note to anyone… When a completely new version of software comes out expect bugs. This is especially so with a re-write as in Scriptcase 9. This is totally expected. Just be sure to let the company know of the bugs and any work-a-rounds. This will help them isolate and correct them.

I have seen updates come out to fix many bugs in v9 so far and I expect many more. That’s just how it goes with such a big project. But the developers who use these tools benifit from what these tools do.
