Can you help determine if this is right for us?

Can you help determine if ScriptCase could be right for us? Some background: we are a very small development shop - just 2 developers. Our legacy systems are written in Classic ASP and ASP.NET. The apps are typical business apps. Budgets, Projects, Financials, various tracking systems with a Sql Server back end.

The PHP world is becoming more important, with contractors of ours doing significant Wordpress and PHP development for us for an external site.

We can continue building new web apps in ASP.NET with our existing tools, or we could evaluate a tool like this and start doing PHP development ourselves.
We currently use ASPRunner and ASPRunner.NET.

If you started over, would you pick ScriptCase again?

The last time I looked at SC a few years ago, it sounded like it wasn’t recommended for Microsoft environments. We are strictly an IIS shop. Is it easier these days to deploy SC apps on an IIS server?

We run scriptcase on IIS at the university and although I haven’t implemented it myself it runs well. In the past I used plesk to get IIS and scriptcase work together and that worked well. But as Plesk takes care of application pools etc. I have no idea what configuration is needed to get it up and running. For deployment it’s another story. Then it’s just php and the database. For sqlserver you need to have a proper driver as scriptcase comes without database drivers.

In general: yes I would start with scriptcase again. But support is and remains a challenge unfortunately. That’s still something they need to improve.

Hello,

I am am fairly new to Scriptcase. I started with Scriptcase 2 years ago and I am about to complete a huge project I have been working on. It currently contains about 500,000 lines of generated code before adding the security. Install of Scriptcase itself was a little of a problem until I found out that Scriptcase install is just Scriptcase. It does not include the database, Python, Apache, or PHP only the scriptcase app.

I would recommend it highly to anyone wanting probably the most complete system out there. No I did not start with Scriptcase and I am sorry I did not. The company I started with is just gone, no support, no updates, but they continue to sell there flawed application which is windows based and not a web based product like scriptcase.

I am currently writing a portion of the app that will allow visitors to sign-in when visiting and it will also take a picture of them from the tablet at the front receptionist desk. I have also included weather in the application as well. I do not think there is anything you cannot do in Scriptcase if you can do in them PHP, JavaScript, Jquery then you can do them here in scriptcase.

Good luck in your ventures,

Dr Tim
