I might be missing the obvious…is there an option to show a block initially in the “collapsed” state rather than the default
expanded?

I was looking for the same feature.
I was told this option will be available in a ‘soon to be released’ update.

Just started with scriptcase … ran into the same question… and the funny thing is … i beleve i have seen it in one of the examples on the internet…
no tricks or workaround to this one ???

I have not heard anything. You could most likely look for the collapse button/icon in Firebug and get the ID, then use JS to collapse the block?
