default images library browse path

hello
is there anyway to make the images libray point to public/icons when clicking on browse? it always goes to scriptcase/backgroundImages by default :frowning:

Not AFAIK but maybe our friend from NetMake can show us the way of the Jedi.

Hey there, this is something we talked about sometimes but we didinā€™t take any definitive actions to solve this.
A place on the default values where the user could set up this variables were discussed, but thats only one of the possible solutions.

In the ā€œCSS Buttonsā€ area iā€™ve implemented a nagivation that saves the last folder you accessed in the images manager.
Since you can choose an image on every button avaliable it was very disturbing to switch folders again and again and againā€¦

If you want to provide here any useful feedback, be my guest.
You can start telling us where are the places inside Scriptcase that youā€™re struggling the most when trying to use the images manager.

Our implementation made at CSS Buttons is a good thing in general, but we canā€™t decide in wich places (tools, appsā€¦) worth saving a navigation cache and when to clear that cache. So feedback is welcome so we can decide this little details for a greater good.

kafeeeee friend, i missed you, actually overload these days, but we have a lot to do, Iā€™m saving a lot of things to discuss loool

okay Cavadinha, what I understand from your feedback that you didnā€™t implement this yet, and still thinking if this is worth it to add.

well, in general, I see the images manager nice and straight forwardā€¦ i like it. however, Iā€™m 100% sure that everybody will have his own folder of icons/images to chose for his/her projectsā€¦ hence, it is a good idea to keep it by default in public, instead of ā€œscriptcaseā€ then all the time change to public, saving repeated clicks.

your idea to open the last opened folder is also great, or if we can define the folder that opens by default, then it is even much better, but i guess is important to have it anywayā€¦ it adds value a if it overweight the development requirement from your side.

what i do, is i like to work on images folder directly, i have my created folders like library1 library2, etc, right inside the public folderā€¦ but the cache you are talking about sometimes do trouble.

let me explain please: now add bunch of images in the folder manually, go to images manager, it will not appear, you need to logoff and login again to SC in order to see themā€¦ I know i can upload from the images manager itself and that shows the image immediately, but sometimes you need to orangize the images/icons in the folder itself, and requires a full computer restart to start appear in the image manager!!

moreover, why it is not allowed to have other folders than icons, backgroundā€¦etc. why images manager canā€™t create folders and sub folders?

one more thing, the fileds where the path to image is written is too short, sometimes we know the full path, or copy past it from another field, but doesnā€™t allow other than going again from browse button and dig into folders to select the imageā€¦ this noticed it in the html image field for example

remains to mention that the effects that you added like loadingā€¦ until next page of images/icons is shown makes it harder and slower to see the imagesā€¦ so, if possible, can you remove the effects to load the image faster? sometimes it keeps loading, loading for minutes until images appear, and that is I guess because of the cache thing, because usually happenes when adding some new images to folder manuallyā€¦ effects for developers are not necessaryā€¦

special request, please see the other posts regarding the upgrade to 8.1 and php 5.4 / 5.6 it really needs more explanation and support from SC guys

appreciated your efforts in all cases, you are doing great job in fact

cheers
Mike

Interesting, i will throw some arguments here so you can understand a little our point of view.

About creating folders:
We discussed this thousands of time about the hability to create folders. Before scriptcase 8 there wasnā€™t a place to manage all your images inside scriptcase, thats why the IM exists now. Help you search / browse to all images avaliable to use inside your SC.
The reason why you canā€™t create folders its simple, we donā€™t want to add functionalities that would make the IM more confusing. We want it simple as possible. Easy to use. Instinctive.
More functions leads to more buttons, wich leads to a more ā€œpolluted interfaceā€, etc. So IM was design to be straight foward as possible, as you mentioned.

Also there are enough folders to organize your images (at least for our point of view).

About cache:
We actually have a function / button that clears the IM Cache, we use it internally mostly because when our team needs to manage the images, generally in bulk, they tend to do it manually (copy / paste outside SC).
I think we can enable this button to all users, that will clear the IM cache whenever they want. Avoiding ā€œeternal loadingsā€ when the users manipulate the files directly through their file browser.
I will analyse IM interface later this week / next week and release this and other improvements for IM to SCā€™s users.

I agree, folders creation is not so necessary, especially that we can create our own folders inside those, it works fine in IM, I tried itā€¦ and that is because I added like 10k icons, so i needed to organize them inside ā€œpublicā€ from file windows file browser loool
However, still we canā€™t define the default path when browsing for image, always take to ā€œscriptcaseā€ folder, that if can be customized or locate the last used folder, it will save time, please consider it.

perfect, adding this function for us to control the cache if required, will add value for sure.

appreciated your efforts indeed.

Note that, throwing 10k images inside one folder will make IM slow. It will read all files, check for size, resolutions, sort it, paginate it.
Scriptcase Icons folder are have between 6-7k images, but we have the complete data of those images inside an array in a .txt file

This means that when IM reads SCā€™s icons folder it runs a lot faster then if you throw the same amount of images inside public / icons for example.

What I want to say is:
If an user have a bulky backup of images like you, I suggest that you split them inside several folders instead of one, but I might do better since iā€™ll tweak it later.
Give the possibility to the user to cache in a txt some folders if they want, like SCā€™s icons.

that is what I did, i have them into public/icons/library1 library2 library3ā€¦etc, each folder has different icons, for different usesā€¦ all better than old school sc icons  i donā€™t have them all in one place Cavadinha  I know about cache and reading, sorting, paginatingā€¦ no worriesā€¦ just if we can release the cache on demand or in a text file as you said, will be great.

donā€™t change your files locations inside the folderā€¦ if you add in batch, just close your browser (i usually restart my pc) then again opening sc from scratch it will index them neatly, but if you change your files locations you will have issues that file canā€™t be foundā€¦
