Deployment via SFTP not working

Trying to deploy apps with SC 9.6.004 via SFTP returns this error:

“Error connecting with the SFTP server
It was not possible to connect with the SFTP server. Please check the server address, the user and the password.”

Am I the only one with this error?

Testing the same address\user\password with an SFTP client works, so the problem seems to be with SC only.
I rarely use SFTP to deploy. Last time I used it it worked, but it was many months ago, hence it was with SC 9.4.xxx

I can connect to sftp, it does the whole process in the process bar, but nothing is copied at the end.
