Hi.
I am trying to adjust a column in a grid so that the width of the page (table?) that the column uses is greater than what SC is calculating by default.
I have looked at numerous resources and I am completely confused how column widths are supposed to work in SC. Has anyone found a good resource to use as a primer? Most of what I have found is “just put this value in there” without any explanation around why or the implications of using different values. And most of the posts related to this topic in the forum seem to end in mystery with so many unanswered questions.
Some specific questions:
- Which, if any, app-wide settings have an impact on specific column widths?
- Under the grid, settings, Table columns field - does anyone understand how “provided” and “calculated” actually work? And/or where do you specify “provided” values, And/or how are they “calculated”?
- Under the setting for a specific field, does anyone understand what the difference is between the values Number of characters and Width? How are these fields supposed to be used to change the column display width? Do they work with “provided” or “calculated” above, and if so how?
I would really appreciate any insights into how this is all supposed to work, or where a good resource might exist to learn more. Based on what I have seen, I am not alone.
Kind regards. And all the best for 2021!
