Is there a way that I can format a field once (for example edit general settings and lookup) for a particular field and it update in all applications to show those format options?

Afaik there’s no such options. There is a multi edit over all (selected) apps, but you cannot set individual properties. Would be a great enhancement imho.
Would be even better if you could set it up in the data dictionary so if you change the control type inside the dictionary it gets updated in all your applications.
