OK, at the risk of sounding like a total klutz, how do I obtain the key value of the currently selected record in a grid?

When you create your link, you send the the value at that time. You can also use sc_link in onRecord to send it in code. If you are referring to when you have the hightlight bar on a grid record, then I will have to research if this is possible. I am not sure you this can be done as the HTML table row has no knowledge, but hey … I could be wrong.
