HTML Editor Failure in Production - Application Hangs - Users lose work

I have a serious issue with the HTML Editor field that causes the application to fail, or hang, without warning, resulting in the loss of end-user’s work.

I have a form that is used to send bulletins via email. The bulletin message content is entered through the HTML Editor field. Under various circumstances, after clicking on Save to save the bulletin (before sending it out) the app will just hang (spinning wheel with ‘processing’ displayed).

As far as I can tell (by updating $SESSION debug variables directly) it fails/hangs before onScriptInit is called (prior to onValidate).

I cannot recreate the problem in Dev/Test environment, but I can re-create the problem at will in Production.

I know this is going to sound very strange, but if I enter the following text into the editor it all works and saves the data just fine when I click on Save

aving casual, small, round-table conversations. This will be an opportunity for members to discuss and provide important feedback on the needs and the future direction of the club.

If you are unable to attend,

There is no bold or italic formatting in this text, and I can find no hidden or special characters.

However, if I type in an “h” at the start of this text in the HTML Editor box (completing the words “having casual”…) and then click Save, the app fails/hangs - spinning wheel & processing and never returns.

I can’t seem to find anything in the apache log file.

This looks like a serious bug to me, but I am happy to be told otherwise. Users are losing their work.

Any thoughts or ideas on where to start to debug or work-around this problem?

Regards, Russell.

Hi,
I work also with this HMTL-Editor Field and then send an e-mail.
I never had any problems with this code … If you copy your code to notepad.exe (that will eliminate every special letters) and then copy it to your field … the error still exists ?

I can offer you a zoom meeting, if you want, contact me please …

Best regards
Uwe
