Hello, Yes its a Zend issue, the files encrypted with the Zend Optmizer still has some problems with PHP 5.3

From my reading of the matter Zend seems unlikely or unable to resolve the issue in the medium term (next decade?), unless we are prepared to run ZendServer on our networks (I’m not).

Has the ScriptCase team considered that this may well stifle their progress and lead to user dis-enchantment? To put that into context, I am getting very fed up having to “downgrade” PHP whenever there’s an update or upgrade for my Linux distro.

Yes, it would be nice to get rid of the Zend issue.

I am going to upgrade my box very soon and I believe I will create a VM that runs 5.2 just for SC since I need it support older projects.
This way I can get the latest distro and take advantage of PHP 5.3 with my current projects.

Hi Scott,
I was doing that for a while but got sick of it <grin>

At the moment I’m thinking of rebuilding my server so that it’s not based on a one size fits all distro like Uuntu. Should make it simpler to can install a specific version of PHP on it.

Irrespective, in the longer term being stuck an aging version of PHP is not going to help. And as I pointed out, the signals from Zend are not encouraging.

I have been using the software for a month now and had to downgrade to 5.2 at least 5 times. What is the plan for upgrade. Waiting for Zend does not seem like a good answer for a commercial software. We did not purchase Zend Optimizer, you chose it to protect your code.
So, what is the plan to move forward? We are going to need additional SC licenses very soon. The software proved its value and allowed us to create a quick prototype. But i do not have the feeling that we could go to production on this platform.

Thoughts?

I have two questions about this issue:

  1. are there any drawbacks/disadvantages to upgrade to 5.3?

  2. maybe Netmake can use an alternative to Zend, like Ioncube? (or even better, no code protection at all as suggested in another topic).

I second that motion of “no code protection”. I am absolutely done with not being able to see what is going on behind the scenes. The times I have wasted because something did just not work. But don’t get me wrong: its a fantastic product. But being able to take a glance at what is going on is just unbeatable. I could have made so many constructive suggestions and find the cause of some bugs if it would not be for this. I believe Netmake would always continue to make their buck on licensing and professional support etc. The low lives that will pirate their software would not have paid for it in the first place. Anyone who would want to use this in any professional capacity would have no problem with their license fee. But if they want to be going big BIG time they have to move out of this. At the very least they HAVE to support php 5.3 very soon no matter what they do about their code protection and stay on top of the evolution from there. And frankly, just speaking personally here, the fact that I can’t see what is going on when things go wrong puts me in a spot where I can’t be the solution provider but instead be waiting and hoping that something is forthcoming from support of the forum. Thats no good and sometimes make me seriously considering whether or not to stay with the framework. So yes guys, can you hear my pleadings? And while I am on a rant here, can we do away with the Iframes PLEASE? They are soooo “has been” and are rapidly depreciating. OK, end of rant. And yes, Scott, running it in a VM is what I do now. That way I can take snapshots before each upgrade and roll back if there are any problems. Anyway guy, your product is awesome, now lets make it perfect, OK?
