Suggestions for calendar

We’ve trialled a calendar application and I think feed back from actual users might be useful to the SC5 developers. Some of the issues my users raised I have already highlighted elsewhere.

  1. A major failing is that users can all too easily “nudge” an event into another timeslot without realizing they have done so. This is very dangerous when the application is time critical, as in a service booking diary application. On the programming side, there are no events or triggers I can see that allow an alert to be raised when an event is dragged and dropped. It’s something that needs to be resolved quickly if the calendar is to be used in any meaningful way. I’m currently working around this by maintaining a reference date and time field in the data table. Very tedious.

  2. On the day calendar it would be useful to limit the display to the hours of activity, for example by defining a time range like 8:00am to 5:00pm, instead of displaying the full 24 hours.

  3. The caption field could be longer, say 128 instead of 64 chars.

4)( As mentioned elsewhere, it would also be useful to be able to calculate the caption field in the application rather than the in the database table

  1. Colour coding of events would be an excellent innovation

Re: Suggestions for calendar

Also I’d like to add something that very useful for people who use Calendar extensively.

Mostly they need some Balloon Pop Up when mouse over the calendar event. It’ll help them overview faster than double click open every task to see details.

Cheers!

Re: Suggestions for calendar

Agreed to both of you.

  • Another nice point would be a year or three month view.
  • Use of direct SQL statement, not only where-clause and sorting (like it is in a grid)

Re: Suggestions for calendar

Nice…!
But I had found issues in Calender…!

  1. The day click event opens the Modal form not visible in the center of the screen, and if more fields doen’st wrapped to fit in to the screen
  2. When the time event is save for a day, not shown in the Day wise list

I use IE 8.0 in windows XP…! does Others have simillar issues…?

Dhana

Re: Suggestions for calendar

I’ve been doing a fair bit with the calendar of late. I haven’t noticed that problem. But as I posted elsewhere this morning, until a solution is provided to alert the application that a user has nudged or moved an event into another timeslot, the calendar application should not be taken seriously. Especially if it is used in time critical applications.

Re: Suggestions for calendar

I don’t like balloon popups because when you have a monthly view of a calendar with hundreds of entries, it slows the initial display to a crawl. It’s one of the reasons I am evaluating ScriptCase, because of their calendar.
