I have a field of type text. Change the fieldtype in the database to datetime. Then go back to the application and synchronize. the field is shown yellow (changed). Then go to edit fields. Fieldtype remains text and needs to be changed manually. Same goes for field length.

I have reported this before too. It goes with all field type changes. It should be fixed in 7.1 too!!
