The new V9 experience last week....

Hallo development team,

Working with V9 the last week. I have the feeling that my work is so much faster, I donot know why…
All the problems I read in the forum, I did not have. I must say I had some sweating to prepare my linux server for the runtime version. (working with Ubuntu).
But when you follow the instructions, which I always do afterwards, it is no problem.
Ok I donot work under windows on the server…so there can be some issues. Perhaps I am a lucky guy.
There are some issues. ie There is no vertical bar to shift in the development menu left. So I cannot delete or alter buttons or scripts with a long name.
And all the Portuguese words in my US-version…please get them out.

In this I give my gratulations to the development team. This is very good work.
There are no much new features, but that I donot need more in the moment. The most imported is a stable software.
In the last 2 years I looked to many other systems, but there is no better than SC. Ok you have to live with some tricks and trucs, but thats a matter of experience and stick on.
The fact that the output is not responsive as i.e WordPress and many others is not so much important for me. I make applications for the office and not for mobile. In the office versions I make there are so many features, that you cannot do the work on your iPhone anyway.
And when my customer want to be mobile (mostly simple approval or what for a manager) I have a good partner who make this for me, based on the same database of course. So what…

Have fun…with the new V9, I am happy…

Your are lucky man :slight_smile: … Unfortunately I (Like many others here) face many difficulties with version 9 but here i want to concentrate on one point, after converted a project from 8 to 9 I tried many ways to change the theme to select version 9 theme instead of 8 and it seems to be impossible to do that, I can not see it in the themes list but if I create a new project I can see it and it is actually the default theme for version 9. Would you please help me to solve this problem?

Actually it is exist and i tested it my self but it is so expensive if you want to get unlimited users, PM me if you want the link …

For your question of using the V9-theme (or any other theme) there are two situations: You start a new project or you want to change the theme in an existing project.
The first situation is clear. Set your theme as default and that’s it. In the second situation that you want to change the theme in an existing project then you first check if the theme is avaible under properties and the tab themes. Make it your default if your change is permanent. So then you go to the application in your existing project and go to layout / settings. There you can change to the new theme. If you use advanced search also there is an select to change in one step. Yes you have to do this for every application. I tried in V9 and donot see any problems, except the portuguese words. But that’s a general remark for the whole V9.
Remark:
There is one exception in this: The menu apllication you have to change the theme not in layout but when buidling the menu on the right.
Strange, but this belongs to the Scriptcase “tips and tricks”. Somebody has to write this special manual someday.

Sorry I have to take back some enthousiasme. Altough I am still a fan of SC, in the new V9 are a lot of minor bugs. I general it works fine, but many small things irritate me.
But I trust it will repaired in a few weeks. I am not going back to V8

Again I found several minor bugs…not stopping the production, but anyway… How to tell this to the development?
There are some which where ok before suddenly are not ok.

This is why I don’t recommend SC 9 for production yet. In fact, the real beta is going on now. It will become stable, but using it now has the major risk of not able to deliver to your customers.

Because this did not say NetMake before launching the version SC9, for me this is an official version. I upgraded my project to version 9 because I wanted to take advantage of the best deals this version. I think NetMake is experienced with us to be able to offer your product.
The truth I feel disappointed with SC9 I hope that NetMake solutions all the problems that this version has and do it as fast as possible.

I do not know how ctmservice made it to work for version 9. Because I have tried it on windows x86 and x64 and linux x64 and it does not work well.

Problems found.

Multi-File Upload does not work with MYSQL
When creating a chart from SC9 you can not change the data type to decimal always appear in integer.
Self-saving function does not work well

I HOPE THAT NETMAKE SOLVES THE PROBLEMS OF SC9.

I must install a windows web production environment for scriptcase 9 on a Windows server 2008 R2, What do you recommend me? Any suggestions?
Is there any document who explains how to do it?

Another question. We have installed the 32 bit version of scriptcase 9 but we have this problem to connect to an access file on the network.
If we put the access file on a folder in c:\db for sample, no problem with the 32 bit odbc, but if we try to set the 32 bit odbc on a folder over the network,
we have problem. Does anyone have had the same problem and resolved it? Thanks.

Yes as Albert says: The V9 is not to be recommended for production. I work(ed) with V9, but for production it is not ready. I had to go back to V8.1
In more than 3 cases in V9 I had to rebuild a form or grid completly because the generation of the code had no effect…Lot of work.
I would say: Yes, Test it and report the bugs

One tip:
If you change the code or a field in a grid or form, the generation of the application is often not enough.
Run the application separatly also when there are globals, simple start, that helps a lot. Otherwise you keep trying to generate.

I paid a license for a production RAD, not for a beta. Lot of time in the trash. I’m very disapointed.
