World Cup

Hi everyone,
Got a chance to watch the Brazil vs Chile game on TV yesterday. Wow - that was exciting. Chile played a great game , but congrats to Brazil!

In the USA we have soccer (what we call football, as we have the american football like the NFL). I remember going to Tampa bay Rowdies games when they started a professional league back in 70’s. Pele played for the NY team in that league. It all kinda disappeared for reason I am not clear on - probably just too many sports here already at the time. Soccer still has had a big following in youth sports here. One of my daughters is 12 and has played 8 seasons

This world cup this year has gotten a lot of attention here in the US. I can tell you that where I work, about 25% of the people have either used long ‘breaks’ to watch TV in at work or have taken sick days or vacation days to stay home and watch various games. The fact that the US team has done well helps a lot. I would predict very good ratings here for the rest of the games. BTW we now have a new professional league here with a team called the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Maybe some top players might play in some of the US games someday, just like when Pele did

Anyway, congrats to Brazil for playing so hard and also hosting the games! Is SC a scene of football madness??!??!? I can see a bunch of SSC programmers and support staff watching big screen TV all day LOL.

What city is SC located in anyway? Are you close to actual stadiums where you are? I know Brazil is a huge country, but have no idea where you have built all the stadiums.

peace,
Jamie

Hello Jamie,

Netmake is located at Recife, and we do have a world cup stadium at our city called Arena Recife.

Costa Rica and Greece just played the last game in our city.

It is nice knowing that we have soccer fans on our forum!

regards,
Bernhard

I stopped watching world cup soon :stuck_out_tongue:

Wow, I looked up Recife and had no idea. It looks like New York City! Looks very beautiful there on the ocean.

When SC is having a celebration we all should go… @gui sorry we beat you badly. But I think your team should have more youth in stead of all the seniors. NL isn’t that good, and most boys are (very) young except for a few like Robben. But despite the lack of quality it’s a team…

How NL played was good, and Robben was impressive. Spain played very bad, next time

The next Brazil game will be in Fortaleza, Cear?, my hometown. It will be a good game two great teams Brazil and Colombia. Netherlands is playing very well in this world cup is a good team. It would be a great game if Brazil and Netherlands. Good Luck for all teams that are still in competition.

lol
wondering SC will give great discount for upgrade/extend if brazil comes out as world cup winner :~p

*aducom: let’s have beer… Bernhardt made brazil govt allowing beer for this event

I don’t mind drinking a good cold beer on the beautiful beaches of Recife. But I’m affraid my wallet doesn’t allow the travelticket
(I don’t think my wife and kids would let me go alone lol)

Well, it was exciting for us here in the US but we got beat! No surprise really… but the front page headlines here where I live today were “Belgium Won, Tampa 1”. That is because the only USA goal was from the 19 year old kid they put in the game who scored - he is from Tampa, where I live!!!

To put in perspective, Belgium has 11 million people in 11K sq miles as opposed to JUST the State of Florida (1 out of 50 states) along where I live is 19 million people in 66K sq miles, with US pop at what, 330 million???! If you figure that the team we put forward was the best of the best from the US, there is a whole lot more great soccer talent per person in Belgium  - maybe next time

I will be watching in great interest for the rest of the World Cup.

I think that soccer as you call it is by far less popular then here in Europ or Latin America. However, I think that America made huge progress as nobody was taken US very serious four years ago. I’ve seen them playing a great game and I think they will be a serious opponent in four years… But basketball, baseball and am. football are great sports at your place, but by far less popular here. Our basketball team from Groningen was champion here in the NL. If there was a world championship they would be beaten by any US team by 100 points…

Albert - you team is doing extremely well and they play quite fair, so I wish you guys have a chemp!
I would be really god to beat Germans though, they already have had to many wins!
Arthur

Tnx, Arthur. I hope that the best team wins. NL does have a good team, but very unexperienced except for a few like Robben. He does makes the difference and is way better than i.e. Messi. We’ll see how far we come. But I’m proud that they came that far, nobody in NL believed we would survive the first round and then 5 goals against Spain… Ah, and we have the coach ‘van Gaal’ who is a psychological genius…

Condolences to Brazil

My condolences to Brazil on yesterday’s game. To any German fans, congrats.

I know it must hurt to lose the game Brazil, BUT I must say that here in the US we have watched this World Cup more than any other. You guys have done a great job putting this all together, and interest in Soccer and Brazil is at an all-time high here.

I like this quote from the Basket Ball super star Michael Jordan:

?I?ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I?ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I?ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I?ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.?
? Michael Jordan

The real measure of any team that loses like that will be how they rebuild themselves for the next test. Hang in there Brazil
Peace,
Jamie

I second that. But this was not the Brazil I thought I know. They all must have had a very bad off day.

Thanks for the condolences guys. Brazil had a real bad day yesterday…

I do think we’ll see two great games on the weekend.

Bernhard Bernsmann

Well the second half-final was a boaring match of two teams afraid for each other and afraid to play football. If you only have defensive strategy you simply will not score a goal. The Dutch know that. So it became a penalty match which is a gamble or a toss… Congratulations to Argentina, the Dutch should have known better…

I have to agree Albert, the match between Netherlands and Argentina was all defense, probably because they were both afraid of losing as badly as Brazil did. I was really pulling for the Netherlands but now it looks like I’ll have to put my money on Germany to win the final.

NL still being 3rd team on the planet is still pretty good ! Congrats !
