Php (8.1) end of life

Hi,

Php 8.1 end of life is 31st December 2025 which really gives little time. Our business does not allow us to use vulnerable software, this is due to our company being registered with multiple standards (ISO, Cyber security, etc.) and we are regulated through (external) compliance. The Scriptcase installer uses 8.1 and we also implement 8.1 for consistency across deployed apps due to compatibility, consistency and de-risking.

My question is, when is Scriptcase going to migrate to the latest version of php - 8.4 at the time of writing, or even to 8.2? Also currently is php 8.2, 8.3 and 8.4 “OFFICIALLY” supported (tested and proved) by Scriptcase if we were to migrate manually to these?

I’m sure this is not just an important issue for us but for all users of Scriptcase.

thanks,
Arthur

Hi, usually SC takes all time as possible to renew PHP.
Based on my experience, the last PHP update I worked with—version 8.1—were both rolled out in November.
Near the Black friday!
Regards

The last time SC was way overdue was due to issues with - I believe - Ioncube. As the parts are encrypted, they were unable to migrate. There are significant differences between PHP 8.4 and 8.1, so I expect a lot of issues, especially in their old code. PHP 8.5 is not much of a difference compared to 8.4 (except for featues). The university of Groningen does not allow applications on their system when support is end of life. For PHP that was almost two years ago, causing us to fix the code manually…

I will follow up directly with SC as we can’t afford the same thing that happened last time with 7.x to 8.1. We unfortunately have a “badly timed” external security compliance audit in January!!! So it’s so critical we move off 8.1 ASAP. If I get a response from SC, I’ll update this topic, although I was hoping SC support would spot this and respond to it given it’s so critical for lots of institutions and businesses.

Here is the response from Scriptcase. Their apps are not compatible with 8.2, so 8.4 isn’t going to work either.

"Hello,

Right now it is not possible update the php to a more updated verision. Right now, our applications are not compatible with php 8.2 and it takes time to update and test it. I have no information about when the php version will be updated.

"

They usually update. I don’t remember a time they let it spill over. I still find SC very reliable despite some very poor comments on this forum. I believe their lack of updates on major release dates is the only reason they get negative feedback.
